Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family go about their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
