Canada's Blue Jays Secure World Series Showdown With the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their first Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the final game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Behind three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the current crown, in the upcoming championship.

"I'm just so happy for our team, our city, the nation," Springer stated, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an amazing experience."

The veteran has now hit 23 total October home runs, placing him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"It's hard to imagine anyone else anywhere that I'd prefer in that spot besides Springer with his playoff prowess," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their performance in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he added.

Toronto won the title on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
