Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is not yet known and the United States has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
