New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.
Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was âpositiveâ during their latest talk.
âThat gives me comfort, is that heâs feeling positive,â Glenn commented. âHis wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.â
It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.
âNot certain at the moment,â the coach said. âYet I must mention, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. And again, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.â
NYPD issued video stills Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the area between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking âa great dealâ since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a newborn.
âThe first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,â Glenn noted. âMy mind went to his family, Iâm thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
âA certain process is underway, that I wonât detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.â
Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.
He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on early August and had to be helped off.
Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.
âHeâs been a part of what weâre doing,â Glenn said. âCertainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.â
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houstonâs squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with New York in March.
