Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation

Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” the coach commented.

“It would be great to change things and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so we'll see.”

Recurring Problems and Player Reaction

Slot lamented recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”

He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes so bad.”

He finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
