It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miamiâs Little Havana neighborhood.
âThis pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,â declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
âIf we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,â the mayor added. âMay this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.â
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the regionâs Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling â6-7â â originating from a musical verse â often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made â6-7â its 2025 word of the year.
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary âaway from grills and cookwareâ, according to the eventâs official press release.
âThe pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,â said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
âIt embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.â
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked Six Sevenâs big moment.
