Thrice-crowned NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets fell 147-123 to the Heat.

The star player was hurt late in the first half during an accidental coming together with teammate Spencer Jones.

The other player came down on the footwear of Jokic, who instantly collapsed to the court holding his knee.

The 30-year-old, that tops the NBA season in boards and dimes, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the game prior to suffering the injury.

The player will undergo an MRI scan on the following day to determine the severity of the issue.

"Right away, Jokic realized he was hurt," stated Denver head coach David Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Whoever who gets hurt, that's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as talented as him. More information will come tomorrow."

"We'll move on together. Obviously, currently, I am more concerned about him personally and the frustration of experiencing an event of that nature."
